This module explains how to prepare and administer an intravenous (IV) infusion using a gravity administration (giving) set or a volumetric pump in a safe, effective manner. Nurses undertaking this procedure must ensure they have the knowledge and skills to do so and work within the limits of their competence. The module serves as a revision of best practice in administering IV infusions of fluids and medicines. Learning aims and intended outcomes After completing this module, you should be able to: Understand how to prepare and administer an intravenous (IV) infusion. Describe two methods for administering an IV infusion gravity administration (giving) set and volumetric pump. Monitor patients undergoing an IV infusion for any adverse reactions.
