Using reflective practice to develop your expertise
Here at the RCN, we recognise that developing expertise in any speciality is more than undertaking education and acquiring specialist skills, qualifications and competence; it needs to be underpinned by reflective practice and clinical supervision.

Nursing practice professional portfolio
A portfolio is a structured way to demonstrate expertise and experience for career development, such as progression within a role or changing roles. It can also support job applications and promotions, as well as fulfilling NMC revalidation requirements.
It is usually a collection of documents and reflective writings (electronically based or paper-based) that showcase your education, work history, skills and ongoing professional growth over time.
It serves as a tool for documenting continuing professional development (CPD). Components often include a CV, transcripts, performance evaluations, certifications, professional development documentation and reflective accounts of practice experiences.
